So what's the difference between OTR & Drayage?
Oftentimes, we envision truckers taking long trips across the country, sleeping on the side of the road and being away from their family for weeks at a time. This is how it is portrayed in the movies, shows and what we see when we go on our family road trips. This type of trucking has a name, and it is called OTR (over the road) trucking. These trips can range from 100s to even 1000s of miles. But there is a better way…

This is where drayage & intermodal comes into play. Drayage & Intermodal trucking refers to taking the goods on the next leg of the trip, after being picked up from rail (Intermodal) or port (Drayage). This type of trucking utilizes the rails and ports for the majority of the package movements, often only having to drive the freight 1-50 miles. You can also do multiple of these trips a day. Drayage not only saves on the wear and tear of your vehicle and overhead costs, but it allows you to generate more profit due to the simplicity and capability of doing multiple loads. With drayage carriers are getting more $ per mile than those operating OTR. Allowing you to generate more income with intermodal / drayage and leaving you more time with your family and friends
